Matt Henke has been the guest teacher in our sunday school class, though we're supposed to call them "adult learning communities." Our class is called the New Parents Class because the majority of us are first time parents. "Big Ideas 4 Small Minds" is the series title and we're getting practical suggestions for teaching theology to our kids.
The first week Matt spent some time introducing his family, including each of his six children, by drawing stick figures on the white board and giving us a general description of each childs' personality. It sounds like they have a great time; he made us all laugh with a few stories and it made my heart ache a little bit because I thought about our desire to have a large family.

One practical suggestion for how to assign importance to the Bible, so that it's not just like any other book in Adriaan's mind, is to give it a place of importance. Quite literally, to place it somewhere important like at the top of the book shelf or in a special place seperate from other books.
So, Adriaan's Bible, which we call his "special Bible" now lives on top of the book shelf in it's "special place." Before bed we try to read a chapter or two (depending on attention span) and now when I ask Adriaan where the special Bible goes he replies, "on top, special place."
In the following picture Adriaan is reading his special Bible, he had gotten it down from the top of the book shelf and was flipping through it and "reading" to himself.
I have to admit, this was one of those proud mama moments, my boy and his special Bible! I ran to tell Will that he should come look and then darted for the camera. Adriaan is so accustomed to me sneaking up on him with the camera, he calmly says "mama take a picture ado" before going back to what he was doing.
